I recently read my first McSweenys (from the way back, 2005) and I really didn’t care for it. I only liked 2 of the stories. Maybe they’ve gotten better in the last 20 years, or perhaps they’re not quite my thing.
Nice work on your sweater!! It looks so good. I’m still just puttering away at a hat; I can never find the time to sit and knit for any stretch of time.
Oh man, yeah. I’ve read a few older ones found in used bookstores and they’ve largely been white man snooze fests. These days they’re much more varied, representative, and exciting. Off the top of my head, #69, #74, and #75 were all big hits for me—I definitely recommend any of those if you’re in the mood to try again.
And thank you! I started the sweater during a D&D session with some friends and realized that knitting is my ideal activity for situations like that, when I’m listening while sitting still. Having something to do with my hands takes the place of fidgeting and helps me pay better attention. (I also worked on it a good bit at our staff meeting earlier this month, haha.) Apparently Bookmarks started hosting a monthly “sip & stitch” night at the bookstore, which could be fun…
So I started How to Write an Autobiographical Novel, and based on what I’ve read so far: yes, absolutely add him to your list. And thank you for the good Jordan vibes! He starts training at the NC Zoo tomorrow morning. 🥲 I’m so bummed we couldn’t make it to y’all’s party at Lesser Known, but hopefully we’ll cross paths again soon. ❤️

A. Need to add Chee to my list! B. I hope Jordan is so happy and flourishing. C. Your hair is so long, haven’t seen you in awhile I suppose! 🫶🏼
